What does XML do?

Actually, XML does not do anything. Yes, that’s true.!! Sounds confusing ? Excellent..! XML is used to store
data according to our database structure. It can not manipulate or change the data being stored. XML is
software independent data storing and carrying language.

For example:

    <CD>

    <TITLE>Vande Matram</TITLE>

    <ARTIST>A.R.Rehman</ARTIST>

    <COUNTRY>India</COUNTRY>

    <COMPANY>??</COMPANY>

    <PRICE>55</PRICE>

    <YEAR>1992</YEAR>

    </CD>

As seen the above XML data is just storing the required data according to the user defined tags and doing
NOTHING to them. Maybe now you are understanding the above statement.

Actually, XML is used to separate data from HTML. Think of yourself developing a dynamic page for your
website that let’s say displays the latest news about you. Now, if you use XML and store the data in another
file, you would save yourself from updating the whole HTML page code every time you want to update the
information. Just change the data of the XML file accordingly and safely.
Moreover, by using javascripts, you can easily play with the data of your XML files and create good
dynamic pages.
